What’s Going On In Alaska?

There may be more corruption to be found in Alaska.

Something stinks. Not just an ordinary low tide smell. Not like something you’d blame on the dog. It smells like an infection. For me to plug my nose, I’d have to overlook some curious facts.

In Alaska, more people voted for George W. Bush in 2004 than for Sarah Palin on Tuesday despite an identical 61-36 margin of victory. Yes. Only four years ago 54,304 Alaskans got off their sofas and voted for Bush, but decided to sit home and not vote for Palin in 2008.

Something stinks. You don’t care? Obama won. Yes. He. Did! Free at Last! Wait. Democracy demands all of the votes be counted…if you can find them.

Something definitely sounds fishy, and they need to get to the bottom of it. Funny thing though, when the polls are “fishy” and it benefits Democrats, we never hear about it. Yeah. Fishy.

Michael Crichton Dies

Author Michael Crichton, the creative force behind the “Jurassic Park” series and the TV show “ER”, has died. He was 66.

Entertainment Tonight reported on the writer’s death on its Web site, ETonline.com. Citing family sources, ET reports he was waging a private battle against cancer.

Crichton is best known for being the author of science-fiction novels such as “Jurassic Park” and its sequel “The Lost World,” which have sold more than 150 million copies worldwide.

“While the world knew him as a great storyteller that challenged our preconceived notions about the world around us — and entertained us all while doing so — his wife Sherri, daughter Taylor, family and friends knew Michael Crichton as a devoted husband, loving father and generous friend who inspired each of us to strive to see the wonders of our world through new eyes,” says a statement from the family posted by ET. “He did this with a wry sense of humor that those who were privileged to know him personally will never forget.”

Rest In Peace, Michael.

Honesty, Honor & Trust

What does the Obama Presidency mean for us, as a nation?

Like every President before him, Barack Obama will be expected to do the best he can, not the best for him, but the best for our country. When he takes that oath in January, I am going to hold him to his word, because in addition to being honest and honorable, I expect our President to be trustworthy.

Celebrating The Election With Lead Paint Recalls

Isn’t it funny how the number of lead paint recalls dropped to nearly zero over the past couple months, but here on election day, they surface again? I know, it’s not a conspiracy, but something sure smells bad, and it ain’t just the paint.

Here are the lead paint recalls announced today:

OKK Trading Recalls Toy TVs Due to Violation of Lead Paint Standard

Toy Xylophones Recalled by King Import Warehouse Due to Violation of Lead Paint Standard

I don’t see why anyone would buy crap like that for their kids anyway.

Madelyn Dunham Dies

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama’s grandmother died of cancer, he said in a statement on Monday, a little more than a week after Obama interrupted the White House race to say goodbye to her in Hawaii.

“It is with great sadness that we announce that our grandmother, Madelyn Dunham, has died peacefully after a battle with cancer,” Obama said in a joint statement with his sister, Maya Soetoro-Ng. “She was the cornerstone of our family, and a woman of extraordinary accomplishment, strength, and humility.”

Rest In Peace, Madelyn.

Defining Double Standards

I have been so busy this weekend, I almost forgot to tell you all about my new post on double standards.

Has our society become so mindless that we need these “contributors” to explain what’s going on in the world, sometimes for hours on end? Whatever happened to picking up the newspaper and simply reading the news? Whatever happened to the evening news reporting just that? It’s a rare occasion today to get any type of unbiased report from the media, and what about those double standards? What exactly is a “double standard“?

We’re coming down to the wire. The media has stopped telling us about vacation rentals, secret meetings, questionable associations, or anything positive about anything, yet the media is still in full ‘double standards’ mode.

It Could Happen

Many people have been affected by the economic downturn. People from all sectors of the workforce are finding themselves looking for work, or worrying that tomorrow may be their last payday.

Oh sure, the economy has had a hiccup, and things could get pretty abd, but things are not nearly as bad as some employers want you to think it is. I’m sure many of them are using this downturn as an excuse to make the cuts they wanted to make irregardless of the economy.

For some, this might be the perfect small business opportunity. Depending on how much you have to invest there are several different options you can choose from.

If I had $10,000 to $20,000 I would look into a franchise opportunity in my area because, even though the economy is struggling right now, it’s the perfect time to get into the business and put a solid foundation underneath a new growing company.

My brother-in-law is the smart one when it comes to business opportunities and marketing those opportunities. If anyone could start a Florida franchise it’s him. Me? I would love to give it my all up here in Georgia, and you never know, it could happen.
