Pistachio Warning

They’re still announcing peanut butter recalls every day, and now this.

Federal food safety officials warned Monday that consumers should stop eating all foods containing pistachios while they figure out the source of a possible salmonella contamination.

Still reeling from the national salmonella outbreak in peanuts, the Food and Drug Administration said central California-based Setton Farms, the nation’s second-largest pistachio processor, was voluntarily recalling all of its 2008 crop – more than 1 million pounds of nuts.

Two people called the FDA complaining of gastrointestinal illness that could be associated with the nuts, but the link hasn’t been confirmed, Acheson said. Still, the plant decided to shut down late last week, officials said.

The recalled nuts represent a small fraction of the 60 million pounds of pistachios that the company’s plant can process each year and an even smaller portion of the 278 million pounds produced in the state in the 2008 season, according to the Fresno-based Administrative Committee for Pistachios.

Another Homemade Meal

No photos again tonight. I spent the day following up with recruiters and re-organizing my farm on Facebook. Yeah I know, ambitious to no end.

I only got responses from three of the recruiters which means 3 or 4 of them will call me before noon tomorrow. They better anyway.

We had tacos, bean burritos, and guacamole for dinner tonight. The refried beans were homemade, as was the fresh guacamole. Now I am stuffed and happy and ready to vegetate the rest of the night.

More tomorrow, really.

A New Link For You

No photo or video to post tonight. I know, you’re disappointed.

I was called in for an interview with a company that I had not had an previous contact with and the prospect looks very good, so I had to drop everything to make it in time for the interview.

Of course, I wasn’t planning a huge post or anything anyway, so you shouldn’t be too disappointed.

As you know, we do a LOT of canning around here, and I thought I would pass a link your way. Marisa (from Fork You) has a new blog called Food In Jars. Well, it’s not new now, but I just found out about it today on Twitter, and I figure you might like to see some of her stuff. She has the good stuff.

If there is ever a FoodCon, with Marisa and Scott, Chef John, and a few others, I would have to make time to go to that one, as long as there were free food samples, of course.
