The Simple Comforts

Sometimes, all you need is some peanut butter, some homemade blackberry jam, and a couple slices of bread.

Ahh yes, the simple comforts in life.

Mother’s Day Dinner

The boys and I had been planning this one for a long time.

The menu tonight included:

Dinner Salad
Filet Mignon
Artichokes
Crab Cakes
Cheesecake

The kids added in:

One T-Bone Steak (for themselves)
Crab Legs (for them too)
Sparkling Red Grape Juice

We had told Gidget that we were making her all of her favorites for Mother’s Day. She didn’t believe us.

The artichokes were the largest, and the freshest, I have seen since we left Southern California over 10 years ago. Needless to say, we made mommy cry, but in a good way.

We Had A Party

We had a bit of a party today. Our youngest turned 7.

He was going to have a Curious George birthday party, but while we were shopping for his party decorations, he decided he wanted a Flag birthday instead. He loves flags.

In addition to the homemade cake, he got a 20 foot flagpole for the yard. Nice. I know what I am doing this weekend. Oh! He picked tacos for his birthday dinner too, so we ate some.

I’m just glad that birthdays are over for a few months. I am exhausted.

A Special Dinner

Okay, not really. Ha! Gotcha.

Tomorrow is our youngest son’s birthday, and he gets to pick what he wants for his birthday dinner. This year, he has picked tacos. Again. He picked them last year. And the year before. We’re not talking Taco Bell here people. We’re talkin’ daddy’s famous homemade tacos. I hope I get time tomorrow to take some pictures, because they usually disappear as fast as I can make them.

Tonight, I made pigs in a blanket, with baked beans and potato chips. Yeah, I know, real nutritious. Hey, leave me alone. We had a boatload of stuff to get done today, on top of working, so I didn’t have it in me to prepare anything too fancy.

The middle son and I did come up with an idea for a new “flavor” of perogie while we were at the store today, so this weekend we will probably be experimenting a little bit as well.

Fettucini Alfredo And Shrimp

Tonight I made a couple of my favorites. Fettucini Alfredo, and shrimp. No, not Shrimp Fettucini Alfredo, but Fettucini Alfredo and shrimp.

The Fettucini Alfredo was quite simple, just some butter, cream, pepper, pasta, a couple egg yolks, and of course, the pasta. You can find this recipe just about everywhere, although I follow Lydia instructions quite religiously.

The shrimp is something of my own creation.

I take the shrimp (as many as you want), and dredge them in flour, then I put them in an eggwash that consists of one egg, some water, a few drops of soy sauce (like 1 tsp maybe, I never measure) and garlic powder. Then I toss them in flour again. Once this is done, I fry them in one stick of butter. Yes, I said butter. Not oil. Not healthy oil. Nice, fatty, salty, butter. Trust me. The shrimp has a taste that makes your mouth water.

Sandwich Night

We cheated again tonight. We took the easy way out.

We had sandwiches. The list of ingredients included:

bread (both white wheat and wheat)
mayonnaise
lettuce
tomatoes
cheese (american and provolone)
avocados
ham
turkey

and

bacon.

We let the kids decide what they wanted (from the list above). It was delicious. I know, I owe you pictures of something food related. Soon. I promise.

In The Mood For Short Ribs

I don’t eat at the Olive Garden anymore. I worked for another chain owned by the same parent company and I am boycotting them, so I won’t eat at the Olive Garden for the same reason. However, I was looking for a good short rib recipe tonight and found this one interesting.

It sure looks like a lot of work to me, for a good short rib recipe.
