I Love French Onion Soup

Who doesn’t love French Onion Soup? Here’s a great video on how to make it.

I’ve been craving this for weeks now. I’ve seen three different videos, and I think it’s time I make some.

Waiting To Roll, California Style

On Tuesday, Chef John at Food Wishes posted about the perfect Sushi rice. If you haven’t seen the video, you should watch it.

I can hardly wait for the California Rolls recipe. I haven’t had a good California roll in a long time, and for those of us who just can’t stomach “normal” sushi, that’s a bad thing.

I guess I should stock up on a few things, because I know when he posts that recipe, I’ll be in the kitchen soon afterward.

Who Doesn’t Love Eclairs?

Here’s a recipe I found on I’m Cooked that I can hardly wait to try.

I know, it won’t help my calorie counting, but who cares?

Wild Rice

Take the pork chops from yesterday, and pour them over some tasty wild rice.

And you have my wife’s favorite dish in the entire world. I will post the recipe sometime tomorrow.

Shrimp Is Not The Question. Artichoke or Avocado?

Everyone in the house has been under the weather for the past 10 days or so. While they are still a bit too “on edge” to crave anything really tasty, I have been craving two dishes I saw on Simply Recipes this week.

The first one is the Shrimp and Artichoke Pasta Recipe. I love making my own pasta, I love shrimp, and I cannot live without artichokes. We have all the other ingredients in the house as well, so this one would be real easy to throw together one night soon.

The other one I saw was the Shrimp Quesadilla Recipe. Oh. My. Goodness. Anytime you take shrimp and serve it up with avocado, you have a friend in me. Needless to say, with our newly acquired homemade flour tortilla recipe and all the yummy stuff that goes in this one, it’s just a matter of time before many shrimp and a few avocados are lost to my temptations.

So which should I try first? Which ever one I try, I plan to make a video of it.

Happy Easter

You might think, after looking the image above, that we had ham for dinner this evening. You would be mistaken. All three of our kids are not feeling well, so we let them pick the menu for this evenings celebration.

We ended up steaming some crab legs, making chili dogs, and setting out a bowl of potato chips. A great time was had by all.

I hope you had a happy Easter with your family!

Hollowed Bread

It’s nice when your bread rises like you want it too.

It’s not so nice when you realize half of the height is nothing but a big honkin’ air bubble.

To go where no egg has gone before…

I present, the Star Trek egg.

It sure was delicious.

Chef John Saves The Day!

My wife has been trying to make the perfect loaf of sourdough bread for months now. She has tried several different methods and recipes and no matter what she has done, it always ends up horrible. She was just at her breaking point this week when I told her about Chef John’s excellent series of posts over at Food Wishes on, you guessed it, making the perfect sourdough bread. Woot!

She has started from the beginning, so I hope to post some delicious sourdough pictures here within a week or so.

There are seven videos in the series, and you can see them all on his site (he offers much better commentary with them than I ever could).
